Statement: Central Indiana business leaders in support of Governor Holcomb’s mask mandate

2021-04-05T16:48:40-04:00July 24, 2020|

Statement of Support: We, leaders from the business community throughout Indiana, endorse Governor Holcomb’s decision to mandate wearing masks in public places for all Hoosiers, effective July 27, 2020, in response to the continuing challenges of COVID-19. All organizations and people in the state have a role to play in mitigating the spread of this dangerous and disruptive disease, which shows few signs of abating. The Governor’s announcement reinforces what many of us are already doing in our own organizations -- requiring the use of masks in the workplace. We are grateful for the Governor’s careful and caring leadership here. This is a prudent step to take to promote everyone’s safety, especially as our youngest citizens prepare to return to school. Hoosiers should indeed “mask up” and support this wise decision. Statement participants: Gail K. Boudreaux President and Chief Executive [...]

IndyStar: Some states are seeing coronavirus cases skyrocket. We’re not. At least not yet. Why?

2021-01-14T11:10:14-05:00June 30, 2020|

A recent IndyStar article examined reasons why Indiana (so far) has had a more successful reopening than many other states. Mark Muro, a senior fellow at Brookings Institution, sees the coalition of business, academic and philanthropic leaders that make up the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership as a contributing factor. In particular, he points to the three safe return-to-work playbooks developed by CICP, it's initiatives, Cummins and many of CICP's member organizations. While other states and entities elsewhere have put together reopening playbooks, very few have the degree of precision found in these documents, Muro said. “…the detail levels set in these private sector checklists in Indiana I think sets a standard.” [READ INDYSTAR ARTICLE]

IndyStar: Extraordinary spring brings leaders forward in remarkable ways

2021-01-14T11:10:14-05:00June 4, 2020|

CICP President and CEO David L. Johnson's Op-Ed originally appearing in the IndyStar. “Moving at the speed of business” is the memorable catchphrase coined by one of our region’s leading employers at the dawn of the 21st Century. Never has that phrase better described how quickly—and how well—Indiana’s corporate and philanthropic community can respond to dramatically changing circumstance. COVID-19 seemed to come out of nowhere; it appears to be planning to stay with us for some time, perhaps until the end of 2021, maybe even beyond. At the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), a collaborative organization bringing together the CEOs of some of the state’s most prominent corporations, universities, and philanthropic foundations, several of our business leaders were among the first to recognize the moment. They moved quickly to close the traditional workplace, and then organized work from home following [...]

Statement: Marion County business leaders in support of Mayor Hogsett’s stay-at-home extension

2021-04-05T16:48:40-04:00May 6, 2020|

May 6, 2020 Statement from Marion County Business Leaders: As leaders of Central Indiana business, community and healthcare organizations, we support the difficult decision by Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to extend until May 15 Marion County’s stay-at-home order in response to COVID-19. Putting public health first, utilizing data-driven approaches, and acting upon guidance from local public health officials, necessitates a different response in densely populated Marion County than in the majority of the rest of the state. Our community’s frontline healthcare heroes have performed inspirationally and admirably in meeting the pandemic challenge. Still, Marion County, with 14% of the state’s population, has seen nearly one-third of all Indiana COVID-19 cases, and suffered nearly one-third of all statewide COVID-19 deaths, with an incidence rate continuing for new cases at nearly three-times the rate elsewhere in the state. And though County patient [...]
