TechPoint says skills-based hiring a key part of resolving Indiana’s biggest tech talent challenges; Asks tech employers to change standard practice

INDIANAPOLIS (May 24, 2022) — TechPoint, Indiana’s nonprofit, industry-led, tech ecosystem growth initiative, is encouraging Hoosier tech employers to rethink their job descriptions and to not require bachelor’s degrees for jobs that don’t need them but instead focus on credentials, skills and experience. Not making those changes will mean employers will continue to exclude more than 70 percent of Hoosiers from being considered for tech jobs, studies show. To help employers make this change, TechPoint has created the Job Description Playbook: Inclusive, Skills-Based Listings and the Tech Career Pathways and Competency Maps, which are both free. Governor’s Workforce Cabinet awards nearly $500,000 for high school advanced manufacturing programs

INDIANAPOLIS (May 18, 2022) The Governor’s Workforce Cabinet has awarded 6 high schools and career centers with an Education Readiness Grant. The new grant program is offered in partnership with Conexus Indiana and will support recipients in preparing students for careers in the increasingly high-tech advanced manufacturing industry. The Cabinet awarded a total of $493,397. AgriNovus Indiana launches HungerTech Innovation Challenge to improve food access

INDIANAPOLIS (May 17, 2022) — AgriNovus Indiana, a non-profit focused on growing Indiana’s agbioscience economy, launched a challenge today to inspire innovation that better serves food insecure people participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), an approximately $100 billion federal program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). EmployIndy Launches Marion County’s Good Wages Initiative Based on CICP Report

EmployIndy has publicly launched the Good Wages Initiative (GWI) in Marion County which certifies, celebrates, and showcases Marion County employers that have voluntarily committed to providing full-time employees both a wage of at least $18/hour and access to employer-sponsored health insurance benefits. In 2018, the Brookings Institution partnered with the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership to produce a report examining Central Indiana’s economic future. Advancing Opportunity in Central Indiana outlines numerous ways the area can develop strategies to increase the availability of more good and promising jobs that pay living wages. Indiana’s life sciences companies accessed more than $15 billion to grow innovation in 2021

INDIANAPOLIS (April 19, 2022) - More than $15 billion of capital was accessed by Indiana’s life sciences companies in 2021. BioCrossroads today issued their annual report, Indiana Life Sciences Capital 2021, which provides details on the funding events throughout the year, including: $6.5 million in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards to 17 companies A record $433.5 million in Venture Capital invested in 39 companies $508 million accessed through public markets by four companies $13.7 billion+ spent to acquire innovation representing 13 transactions $521 million in capital to establish, expand, or upgrade facilities by 23 companies Most noteworthy were the increases in venture capital and merger and acquisition amounts.
