INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 25, 2022) — Indiana tech companies face a very competitive global talent market that makes it difficult to hire and retain workers. In an effort to ease that issue, so employers can instead focus on innovating and growing, TechPoint has partnered with NFP to develop a compensation and benefits guide entitled, “2022 Total Rewards: Indiana Tech Trends Report.” The 70-page report focuses on 10 in-demand and growth-oriented information technology occupations in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The report details expected current market salary ranges and benefits as well as outlines the types of health insurance coverage, contribution levels and associated offerings that companies commonly make to give insights that can help them shape their hiring practices. “Hoosier employers are competing for the same tech workers as Google, Apple, Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft, Netflix and other major technology brands,” said [...]

2022-10-18T12:45:59-04:00October 18, 2022|

INDIANAPOLIS — (October 18, 2022) — Too few Black Hoosiers are working in or working toward a career in the Indiana tech sector. TechPoint prioritizes adult apprenticeships in tech with nationally recognized partner New Apprenticeship to dramatically expand workforce

2022-10-11T09:12:29-04:00October 11, 2022|

INDIANAPOLIS (October 11, 2022) — TechPoint, the nonprofit, industry-led growth accelerator for Indiana’s tech ecosystem, today announced a strategic partnership with New Apprenticeship TM (NEW), another key element of its Mission41K plan to inclusively grow the Indiana tech workforce by an additional 41,000 workers by 2030. Apprenticeships are a proven way to encourage youth to join the tech sector, and a quick way for adults to enter the field while also providing an immediate return on investment to employers. TechPoint Executive Vice President of Talent Dennis Trinkle, citing U.S. Department of Labor statistics, said there are more than 435,000 adults working today in the U.S. as adult apprentices. Only about 4,000 of them are in the tech field, he said. “We know this approach works, but the tech sector is only now beginning to embrace it,” he said. “Now is [...]

TechPoint partners with IEDC to help Indiana startups afford young tech talent

2022-10-05T14:35:47-04:00October 4, 2022|

INDIANAPOLIS — (October 4, 2022) — TechPoint’s signature Xtern program has helped attract and retain tech talent to Indiana for nearly 10 years, but the companies that have benefitted most from the early career development effort are established companies. Exciting young startups – which could one day grow into local or global giants – often don’t have a robust budget or structure to attract talent, provide training and offer amenities to engage these young professionals in pursuing lifelong careers in Central Indiana. That will change next year, thanks to a $300,000 investment in the Xtern program by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) which for years has invested in workforce training grants. Indiana Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers sees TechPoint’s Xtern Startup Assistance Program as a smart expansion of IEDC’s workforce training efforts, which traditionally target adult workers in need [...]

During the first Orr Fellowship-Xtern Finalist Day, participating companies are expected to conduct thousands of interviews with prospective new hires. “Finalist Day is a rite of passage for each of our programs. It’s a tremendous amount of work to match employers to prospective talent and, of course, there is an equal amount of preparation and work for the young people and hiring managers who will participate in these job interviews,” said TechPoint’s Executive Vice President of Talent Dennis [...]

TechPoint launches new program to help out-of-state investors use the Indiana Venture Capital Investment Tax Credit

2022-08-31T13:14:59-04:00August 30, 2022|

INDIANAPOLIS (August 30, 2022) — A new program launched by TechPoint is aimed at assisting investors in Indiana startups from out-of-state to assign or sell up to $1 million in venture capital investment (VCI) tax credits which they can earn but can’t use. The Indiana VCI Marketplace is a free program to better connect investors who have earned VCI tax credits and Hoosier investors who want to buy them. The Indiana Venture Capital Investment (VCI) Tax Credit was enacted in 2003 but applied only to Hoosier investors who could use it to lessen their tax liability. Since out-of-state investors don’t pay Indiana taxes, the benefit didn’t apply to them. That changed in 2020 after the Indiana General Assembly updated the legislation to allow those investors to sell the credits they earned. The benefit applies to qualified capital investments in Qualified [...]

TechPoint says skills-based hiring a key part of resolving Indiana’s biggest tech talent challenges; Asks tech employers to change standard practice

2022-05-24T08:55:44-04:00May 24, 2022|

INDIANAPOLIS (May 24, 2022) — TechPoint, Indiana’s nonprofit, industry-led, tech ecosystem growth initiative, is encouraging Hoosier tech employers to rethink their job descriptions and to not require bachelor’s degrees for jobs that don’t need them but instead focus on credentials, skills and experience. Not making those changes will mean employers will continue to exclude more than 70 percent of Hoosiers from being considered for tech jobs, studies show. To help employers make this change, TechPoint has created the Job Description Playbook: Inclusive, Skills-Based Listings and the Tech Career Pathways and Competency Maps, which are both free. It’s part of the organization’s focus on a collaborative, comprehensive effort to inclusively add more than 41,000 Hoosier tech workers by 2030.This will require Indiana to double the current national tech workforce growth rate from 2 to 4 percent. “Achieving this growth is not [...]
