This 2001 analysis from the Battelle Memorial Institute titled, Nurturing Central Indiana’s Pillar Industries for 21st Century Midwestern Pre-Eminence, proposes a regional economic development strategy that the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) largely continues to follow today – encouraging a broad focus on human capital, entrepreneurship and business climate with a specific emphasis on key economic clusters (advanced manufacturing, life sciences and information technology – later joined by logistics, energy technology and agriculture innovation).
